Dr. John S. Alspaugh graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Chemistry from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University in 1982 and again graduated cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor fraternity as a junior medical student.
Dr. Alspaugh then compiled a five year General Surgery Residency, culminating in Chief Resident at the Medical College of Virginia, 1982-1987. The following two years, 1987-1989, he was a Plastic and Reconstructive Resident at the Medical College of Virginia and was awarded the Theograj Academic Award. He completed his medical training with Microsurgery Fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute, Louisville, KY in 1990. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1992. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Humera Surgical Society, Medical Society of Virginia, Virginia Beach Medical Society, The American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Alspaugh specializes in all areas of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and attends numerous conferences to stay current on the latest techniques and procedure. Such as: American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Meeting Orlando, Dallas Rhinoplasty Symposium, American Society of Plastic Surgeons Meetings, in 1998: San Francisco, 1992 Boston, 1995 Philadelphia, 2003 Los Angles, 2007: Baltimore. 2006: Baker Gordon Symposium on Cosmetic Surgery, 2004: St. John’s Plastic Surgery Workshop, 1993: Tortula, 1995: Vail, Colorado, The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, San Diego, California 2008.
He has volunteered on several reconstructive surgery missions to foreign countries including Guatemala and Vietnam.
