John S. Alspaugh, MD

Dr. John S. Alspaugh is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Virginia Beach, VA. Dr. Alspaugh and his partners make up Associates in Plastic Surgery, a comprehensive practice that serves the needs of both cosmetic and reconstructive patients. Dr. Alspaugh has been a practicing plastic surgeon in the Hampton Roads area for more than 20 years. 

Dr. John S. Alspaugh graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Chemistry from Wake Forest University. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University in 1982 and again graduated cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor fraternity as a junior medical student.

Dr. Alspaugh then compiled a five year General Surgery Residency, culminating in Chief Resident at the Medical College of Virginia, 1982-1987. The following two years, 1987-1989, he was a Plastic and Reconstructive Resident at the Medical College of Virginia and was awarded the Theogaraj Academic Award.

He completed his medical training with Microsurgery Fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute, Louisville, KY in 1990. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1992. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Medical Society of Virginia, Virginia Society of Plastic Surgery, The American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

 

Dr. Alspaugh is experienced in all areas of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery but finds most of his time committed to facial cosmetic surgery, breast surgery andbody contouring. In order to stay abreast of this ever changing field he attends numerous conferences to stay current on the latest techniques and procedures. Such as: The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The Aesthetic Meeting Orlando, Dallas Rhinoplasty Symposium, The American Society ofPlastic Surgeons Meetings, in 1998: San Francisco, 1992 Boston, 1995 Philadelphia, 2003, Baltimore, 2006: Los Angeles, 2007: The Baker Gordon Symposiumon Cosmetic Surgery, 2004: The St. John’s Plastic Surgery Workshop, 1993: Tortula, 1995: The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, San Diego, California 2008, The Aesthetic Society of Plastic Surgery; Las Vegas, 2009, The Facial Rejuvenation and Aesthetic Surgery Symposium in NewYork , New York, Dec. 2010.

 

Dr. Alspaugh is active in The Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is due to serve as President in 2012.

He has volunteered on several reconstructive surgery missions to foreign countries including Guatemala and Vietnam.
