Otoplasty (Correction of Protruding Ears)
Otoplasty is the medical term used to describe the procedure to correct protruding ears. The ears normally fold to the scalp producing the expected shape. In some people, due to an inherited tendency, this "folding" is incomplete, and the ears stick out. This can be very troubling to children and their parents. Painful teasing from other children and shyness can result. For these children, and occasional adults, otoplasty is used to normalize the appearance of the ears with a simple outpatient procedure.
