Liposuction

Liposuction is the most commonly performed aesthetic procedure in the U.S. We at Associates in Plastic Surgery helped sponsor the first liposuction symposium in this country, as these techniques were brought over from Europe and refined. Liposuction has been used to contour almost every part of the human figure including the chin, back, calves, knees, arms and breast. It is applicable to almost any part of the body but commonly applied to fatty areas in the hips, thighs, and abdomen.
Liposuction is the aspiration of fat from the body using metal tubes called cannulas. These cannulas are placed through small incisions. Negative pressure is then applied, and the fat is evacuated.
We have employed all variations of liposuction techniques including, Power Assisted Liposuction, Laser Liposuction, and Ultrasonic Liposuction. We feel that tumescent liposuction provides similar results with far less risk. The state of this art is evolving and we’re sure the results continually improving.
The compression garment is an important part of the postoperative care program. It minimizes swelling and helps produce the desired contour. Depending upon the area being treated, the garment would be recommended for 2 to 6 weeks. The benefits of liposuction are not fully realized for approximately 3 months due to long term swelling. Patients should consider this when scheduling.
