Our society today places a high value on looking young.
The acceptance of plastic surgery by men to improve their appearance
has dramatically increased over the past decade. Many procedures,
previously reserved for women, are now available to men. Most procedures
allow quick
recovery periods, allowing one to feel comfortable returning to
an active lifestyle within weeks
of surgery.
Some
men may be displeased with aspects of their appearance that have
been present since youth. This might include concern over the size
of one's nose, the projection of one's chin, or even puffy lower
eyelids. Others may dislike aspects of their appearance that presents
with age. Muscle mass decreases as men age, and is generally replaced
with fat. While diet and exercise are still the best means to control
this process, localized areas of resilient fat can be readily improved
with liposuction. The neck, abdomen, flanks (love handles) and chest
are just several areas very amenable to correction with liposuction
techniques.
Facial
aging occurs more slowly in men than women. Although men's facial
skin is thicker and
better preserved by hair and shaving than women's, it too demonstrates
the negative effects of
aging. A multitude of procedures can be utilized alone or in combination:
browlift, upper and lower
eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), chin advancements, face and necklifts.
Not all require visible
or tell-tale incisions. Midface lifts and liposculpture require
no visible scars. Anterior necklifts
allow removal of excess fat and redundant skin with limited scars
in the bearded skin beneath
the chin. Corrective procedures often involve adding volume with
injection of one's
own fat. A youthful looking face is more full and robust, while
age causes one's face to become
more gaunt and loose.
Good
communication between you and your plastic surgeon is essential
